Hoping for a Jersey Devil sighting!

So the first day of my trip has me going from Jersey City down to Cape May where I'll jump on a ferry to Delaware. This trip will take my the entire length of the famed Pine Barrens which is home to bobcats, bald eagles, rattlesnakes, and maybe a Jersey Devil or two. Anyone who has spent time in the Pine Barrens knows that its just as spooky and desolate as it is beautiful and untouched despite being located smack dab in the middle of the most densely populated state in the country. I can't wait to camp here for my first night out on the road!

Here is a link for anyone reading this who hasn't donated yet and would like to. I'm raising money and awareness for the Lupus Foundation of America to help fight this terrible disease.

http://donate.lupus.org/goto/cycleforlupus

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). Chronic means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years. In lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria, and germs ("foreign invaders," like the flu). Normally our immune system produces proteins called antibodies that protect the body from these invaders. Autoimmune means your immune system cannot tell the difference between these foreign invaders and your body’s healthy tissues ("auto" means "self") and creates autoantibodies that attack and destroy healthy tissue. These autoantibodies cause inflammation, pain, and damage in various parts of the body.

Anticipation...

I have to keep reminding myself that I'm about to drop everything and start pedaling westward. Its so bizarre that despite all of the months of planning and saving it still hasn't set in that I'm about to embark on a serious adventure. And a solo one at that. It'd be great to have all of my friends with me on this journey but since that isn't a possibility I'll be documenting this the best I can and sharing it on here. I really wish I was leaving tomorrow. Everything is prepared and ready to roll. Talking about this trip is starting to get old.
